| TAPE TO CD TRANSFER |
Need your cassette tapes transferred onto CD? We can do this for you. Please give us plenty of notice for projects. This service requires the use of the main studio console, so time must be specifically allocated just like full scale recording projects. The charge for this service is the hourly studio rate ($20 per hour). The typical amount of time for this process is about three times the length of the final CD (or more). Tapes are recorded onto the studio console in real time (the total length of the final CD), and then mastered in real time (the total length of the CD again). Additional time includes setting up an analog machine to the console, editing and aligning digital tracks (if compiled from multiple cassettes), placing track markers, and disc imaging. The project is then burned to disc at 1/2 speed (half the length of the final CD).
Our goal is to ensure the highest quality transfer possible. If we run into complications, additional time may be required. Part of the process involves setting up an analog machine to the console, and setting the volume levels on both machines for the highest quality transfer. If tracks are compiled from multiple cassettes, there may be volume differences between the tapes. This can usually be adjusted on the console later during editing to ensure a consistent CD. However, if a particular tape is so loud that it is distorted, the transfer for that tape will need to be done again. Also, if you submit a broken tape, or the tape breaks during transfer, additional time will be required to take the cassette apart and repair the tape (as best as possible). If a cassette has been stored for a period of time, we recommend playing or fast forwarding it all the way through before submitting it. This helps to prevent the roll of tape from sticking to itself and either not playing or breaking.
